Speaking to Higher Belts
There is a level of expectation that we hold ourselves to. The first form of respect you will learn is how to speak to those that are higher belts than you and why we do it.
Front Rolls
Seems silly, but most people have no idea how to do a proper front roll. This is important because in Jiu-Jitsu we fall a lot, and understanding how to fall is crucial.
Back Rolls
Same with the front roll, without proper technique for your back roll, you will hit your head or hurt yourself if you don't do it properly.
Shrimping
The name "Shrimping" is funny, but it is crucial when you're getting started with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. This is how we escape the hips.
Back Falls
Believe it or not, Back Falls happen in all forms of martial arts, and understanding how to fall properly will keep you safe and ready to defend yourself.
Side Control
This position is crucial. When you master side control, your journey in Jiu-Jitsu will truly begin. This is the first form of control you learn and its important.
Mount Position
Mount Position is important from both the top and bottom. Understanding how to defend your self and escape this position is important in all areas of life, especially for females.
Back Control
It might be hard to believe, but sometimes being on your back in a fight is the best place to be and you have more control than you might imagine. We'll show you how.
North and South
This is how we hold someone under the armpit. These positions are simple but yet super important when building the foundation.
Bowing
This is a tradition that is important for both respect and others.
Jiu-Jitsu Vocabulary
Understanding what we mean when we give instructions is crucial to minimizing your learning curve. We will make sure you know what we're saying from the start!
